About Work Trousers

Mars Wear manufactures work trousers at its own production facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, with patterns and logos made for each organisation, from a minimum of 100 pieces; we ship within Türkiye and abroad. Standard lead time is 15 working days.

GROUND FIRST, THEN SEASON

The most common mistake when choosing work trousers is to start with the season. The right order is: first the ground staff walk on and the risks they face, then the temperature.

If the ground is clean and controlled (assembly line, warehouse racking, packing), plain gabardine trousers are enough. If there are nails, wire or metal swarf on the ground, knee and hem reinforcement and a knee pad pocket come into play. If staff are exposed to traffic or plant machinery, a visibility layer is added.

SUMMER OR WINTER?

What separates the two is not only thickness but the weave density. For summer production we use 16/12 gabardine — 100% cotton, lighter and more breathable. For winter production, 7/7 gabardine or a fleece-lined construction comes in.

On the winter side there is one more choice, and getting it wrong costs comfort: fleece lining or a more densely woven fabric? If staff are outdoors all day, fleece-lined; if they often go into heated areas (loading dock, service vehicle, production hall), densely woven gabardine is usually the better choice — a fleece lining makes you sweat in a warm environment.

Feeling the difference on a sample is more reliable than reading a description; we send samples of both fabrics.

IF VISIBILITY IS REQUIRED

EN ISO 20471, the standard for high-visibility clothing, sets the class by the area of material on the garment: at least 0.14 m² of fluorescent background + 0.10 m² of reflective material for Class 1, 0.50 + 0.13 for Class 2, and 0.80 + 0.20 m² for Class 3.

The rule to know: trousers on their own typically meet Class 1. The way to reach Class 2 is to add an upper garment that covers the torso — a vest or jacket. Class 3 requires a sleeved top together with full-length taped legs.

There are also two different products both called "reflective", and they get confused. Trousers with a fluorescent background give visibility by day and by night. Dark trousers with reflective tape only are noticed in headlights at night but add nothing to daytime visibility. For a team working in traffic, the second gives no daytime protection.

Let us be clear about certification: high-visibility clothing is Category II personal protective equipment, and certification is issued by a notified body for a specific tested product. If certified PPE is mandatory, state it at the start of the project.

POCKET DESIGN — NOT A NUMBER, A LAYOUT

"7 pockets" says nothing. On site, four things decide whether a pocket is useful: depth that suits the tool carried, the direction the flap opens (a flap that opens upwards empties the pocket when you bend), bar-tack reinforcement at the pocket corners (work trousers usually tear at a pocket corner, not in the fabric) and weight distribution.

That is why, at the sample stage, we ask for the tools the team actually carries. Pockets are not picked from a catalogue; they are drawn around the tools.

MAIN GROUPS IN THE CATEGORY

Summer work trousers — 16/12 gabardine, light and breathable; May to September. Winter work trousers — fleece-lined or densely woven gabardine; November to March. Hi-vis work trousers — with a fluorescent background or reflective tape, in all-year and summer versions. Cargo work trousers — for technical teams who carry tools, measuring devices and phones. Security trousers — with pockets for a radio, handcuffs and a torch; with options that meet the colour limits of Turkish Law No. 5188. Work shorts — for hot climates and teams that do not need leg protection.

LOGO AND PRODUCTION

On heavy fabric, embroidery is the most durable logo method; it is applied on the side of the thigh, the cargo pocket flap or the back of the waist. Hi-vis products have an extra constraint: print or embroidery must not reduce the fluorescent background and reflective area.

Sizes XS–5XL, larger sizes made to order. Women's and men's patterns are developed separately; a single pattern cannot get the waist-to-hip ratio right for female staff.
