What Are Winter Work Trousers?
Winter work trousers are worn from November to March by staff working outdoors or in unheated indoor areas; they are thicker and warmer than the summer model.
Mars Wear produces them at its own facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, with a pattern and logo specific to your organisation, in batches starting from a minimum of 100 pieces, and ships within Türkiye and abroad.
What Makes Trousers "Winter" Trousers? Two Different Methods
On the market, the "winter" label is attached to two different constructions, and they are not the same thing. The right choice depends on what your team actually does.
1. More tightly woven gabardine. A tighter weave of the same 100% cotton fabric. It blocks the wind, feels heavier and resists abrasion better — but it is not lined. It is from the same family as the summer 16/12 gabardine, just denser.
2. A fleece-lined construction. A gabardine or canvas outer and a fleece inner. This is what provides the real thermal insulation.
A quick rule: if staff are outdoors all the time, fleece lined; if they go in and out often (warehouse ramps, service vehicles, production halls), tightly woven gabardine is generally better — because a fleece lining makes you sweat in a warm environment.
Fleece Lining: What It Gives, What It Costs
A fleece lining noticeably increases warmth, but it is not without a price. Three things to know before buying:
- Bulk. The lining makes the trousers thicker; if a slim pattern is chosen, it restricts crouching and climbing stairs. We make the winter model slightly roomier, not on the same pattern as the summer one.
- Drying time. Fleece-lined trousers that get wet dry noticeably more slowly than unlined ones. For teams exposed to rain, this means a spare set to wear the next day.
- Sweating. On entering a heated environment, the lining keeps the heat in. For teams moving in and out all day, a layered solution is more comfortable.
We assess these three points together on a sample; describe your team's daily routine and we will decide together which one suits.
The Layered Alternative: Thermal Base Layers
Instead of a single fleece-lined garment, thin winter trousers + thermal base layer bottoms is also a common solution. The advantage is that staff can remove a layer according to the temperature; the disadvantage is managing two separate pieces.
For organisations with multiple sites in regions with different climates, the layered system usually works out more economical: the same trousers are used in every region, and only the distribution of base layers changes.
Cargo Pockets, Knee Reinforcement and Reflective Tape
- Cargo pocket — on the side of the thigh, with a flap. For technical teams carrying tools, measuring devices and gloves. We make the flap larger so it can be opened in thick gloves; a detail often overlooked in winter models.
- Knee reinforcement — double-layer fabric or a Cordura patch. For teams who kneel to work, such as plumbing, cabling and flooring. If pocket knee pads are to be added, the pocket is built into the pattern from the start.
- Reflective tape — below the knee and at calf level. For teams working in the early dark of winter. Where full visibility is required, adding tape is not enough; the reflective work trousers with a fluorescent background are needed.
The number of pockets, their placement and fastening vary by organisation — this is not a catalogue choice but is worked out on the pattern.
Colour Options
Dark shades dominate in winter production: black, navy, anthracite, dark grey, dark green, brown. The reason is practical — on a winter site, mud and oil stains show less on dark shades, and the garment's visible life is longer.
If your corporate colour is different, our own design team matches a shade to your existing uniform.
Which Teams Are They For?
- Factory and production site teams — unheated halls, outdoor checks, night shifts
- Logistics, warehousing and parcels — open-ramp operations, cold store transitions
- Construction, building and road maintenance teams — with knee-reinforced and reflective versions
- Landscaping, parks and municipal services companies — outdoor maintenance teams
- Technical service and field engineering — telecoms, energy and HVAC winter teams
- Private security — outdoor patrol and car park officers
Season Planning
The right time for a winter order is not September–October but before that. Fabric supply and the 15-working-day production time mean deciding at the end of summer if you want your team dressed before winter sets in. If you are planning the summer–winter changeover at company scale, our season changeover plan guide will make things easier.
Complete the Set
- Gabardine 16×12 Summer Work Trousers — the summer counterpart of the same pattern; to run two seasons with one design
- Cargo Work Trousers — year-round use, teams carrying tools
- Thermal Base Layer Bottoms — the layered solution
- Knee Pads — pocket type
For all options, see the work trousers and winter workwear categories.
Logo Application
On thick winter fabric, embroidery is the most durable method; it is applied to the side of the thigh, the cargo pocket flap or the back waist. For multi-coloured logos, transfer print is preferred. For a comparison of methods, see our logo printing and embroidery guide.
If you do not have a ready logo, our own design team prepares the version to be used on the uniform.
Ordering and Production Process
- Needs discussion — team size, size breakdown, staff's daily routine (outdoors all the time, or in and out).
- Construction choice — fleece lined or tightly woven gabardine; decisions on cargo pockets, knee reinforcement and reflective tape.
- Sample — pattern and fabric approval with a physical sample.
- Design approval — the logo position and technique go to cutting with your written approval.
- Production — standard delivery 15 working days.
- Shipping — within Türkiye and abroad; separate deliveries to multiple sites are possible.
Our minimum order is 100. For the size breakdown, you can use our workwear size chart guide.
Care
Caring for fleece-lined trousers differs from unlined ones:
- Do not use fabric softener. It flattens the fleece, and over time the lining loses its ability to hold heat.
- Do not tumble dry. The lining shrinks and puckers against the outer fabric; dry naturally.
- Wash at 40 °C, inside out, with zips and buttons closed.
- Pre-treat oil and solvent stains before washing.
- If there is reflective tape, do not iron over it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy fleece lined or tightly woven gabardine? If staff are outdoors all day, fleece lined; if they often go into heated environments, tightly woven gabardine is more comfortable. If you are undecided, we send samples of both.
Down to what temperature are they enough? There is no measured temperature rating for the fabric and lining; certified temperature protection is found in products tested to a standard such as EN 342. This product is winter work trousers for comfort. For teams working in extreme cold, we recommend our certified cold-weather products.
Is knee reinforcement standard? It is optional. Double-layer fabric or a Cordura patch is applied for teams who kneel to work.
Can reflective tape be added? Yes, below the knee and at calf level. For work that requires full visibility, a separate model with a fluorescent background is needed.
Do you produce a women's pattern? Yes, women's and men's patterns are developed separately. Size range XS–5XL, with larger special sizes.
Can antistatic or flame-retardant fabric be used? Production with special fabric is possible on request. Because such fabrics add supply and pattern time, they need to be discussed at the start of the project.
What is your minimum order? 100 pieces.
Do you ship abroad? Yes, we ship within Türkiye and abroad.
