About Winter Workwear
The most common mistake with winter workwear is buying one heavy jacket. A heavy jacket is right outdoors in the morning; indoors it makes staff sweat, and once it comes off they get cold because their back is damp. Some of the sick leave taken in cold weather comes straight from this.
The right approach is a layering system, and it has three parts.
Inner layer — thermal base layer. Its job is not to warm but to move sweat away from the skin. That is why a cotton underlayer backfires: cotton absorbs sweat and stays wet, and wet fabric loses heat far faster than dry fabric. Staff are warm while moving and cold when they stop. The base layer must also fit close to the body; a loose base layer cannot carry moisture.
Mid-layer — fleece, sweatshirt or padded gilet. This is the part that actually traps the heat. Half-zip models let staff adjust their warmth without taking the garment off. For work that needs arm movement, a gilet keeps the torso warm while leaving the arms free.
Outer layer — wind and water. What determines how cold it feels is often the wind rather than the temperature. For a waterproof outer layer, check the second digit of EN 343 as well; a jacket with low breathability keeps the rain out but gets you wet from the inside.
In extreme conditions, extreme-cold jackets are a separate class, designed for cold stores, freezer areas and outdoor night shifts.
Do not forget the extremities: a large share of heat loss is from the head, neck and hands. A beanie, neck warmer and thermal socks are a more effective and much cheaper solution than a thicker jacket.
Mars Wear manufactures at its own production facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, with its own design team, using patterns, colours and logos made for each organisation. Our minimum order is 100 pieces and our standard lead time is 15 working days; we ship within Türkiye and abroad. Planning the winter order before the season starts is an advantage for both the production schedule and the size breakdown.
