Product description
What Is a Gabardine Gilet?
A gabardine gilet (gabardine work gilet) is a work gilet made from tightly woven cotton gabardine that stands up to site conditions. What sets it apart from knitted polyester gilets is the fabric itself: gabardine resists abrasion and tearing, does not hold sweat and keeps its shape wash after wash.
This model is made in navy with a quilted padded lining — in other words, it is for winter. It has grey reflective tape across the chest, two flapped chest pockets, a stand collar and a full-length zip.
At Mars Wear we make the gabardine work gilet at our own production facility. Fabric, lining, colour, pocket layout, reflective placement and logo application are decided for your organisation. Our minimum order is 100 pieces; we ship within Türkiye and abroad.
What Does "7/7 Gabardine" Mean?
In the Turkish workwear trade, gabardine fabrics are referred to by yarn count — 7/7, 14/14, 16/12 and so on. These numbers show the fineness of the warp and weft yarns, and the smaller the number, the thicker the yarn:
- 7/7: Thick yarn, a heavy weave. The standard for winter and quilted production — this is the fabric of this product.
- 14/14: Medium thickness; common in trousers and jackets worn all year round.
- 16/12: Fine yarn, a light fabric. Preferred for summer and unlined production.
So "7/7" is not a quality label but the fabric's weight class.
The fabric is 100% cotton. Compared with synthetic alternatives, cotton breathes and does not build up static; it is also considered safer than synthetics in environments with a risk of sparks, such as welding and grinding.
Summer or Winter? Which One This Is
Gabardine gilets fall into two groups on site, and mixing them up is a common mistake:
- Unquilted (summer): Unlined, single-layer gabardine. Worn in the hot months and indoors.
- Quilted (winter) — this product: Has a padded lining with diamond quilting inside. The quilting stops the fill clumping and shifting in the wash.
If your team is on site all year round, planning both versions together is the most efficient solution; the same pattern and the same corporate look are produced for two seasons with two lining options. If you tell us your requirements, we can also make the summer version with the same colour and logo layout.

It Has Reflective Tape — But It Is Not a Certified Hi-Vis Garment
This distinction is the key to choosing the right product, and it is the most commonly confused point on site:
- This product: Reflective tape on a navy body. It gives night-time visibility under vehicle headlights. Daytime visibility is at the level of an ordinary work gilet.
- Certified high-visibility garment (EN ISO 20471): The standard does not only require reflective tape; it also requires fluorescent (hi-vis yellow/orange) background material over a set area. Adding tape to a dark body does not meet this classification.
Rule of thumb: If your work area is open to vehicle traffic, is at the roadside or on a motorway, or your health and safety rules require a specific visibility class, you need a product with a fluorescent background:
- Reflective Hi-Vis Safety Vest — basic high visibility, can also be worn over this gilet
- Reflective Engineer's Hi-Vis Vest — with pockets and high visibility
The dark colour has a real advantage too: oil, mud and dust stains show far less than on hi-vis fabric, keeping the corporate look for longer. We clarify together before ordering which site needs which.
Areas of Use
- Factories and production areas: The abrasion resistance of gabardine stands out on lines with heavy material contact. Take a look at our factory and production workwear category.
- Warehousing and logistics: Amid forklift traffic, the reflective tape makes staff easier to see. See the full set on the logistics and warehouse workwear page.
- Maintenance, technical service and workshops: The flapped chest pockets hold small equipment and an ID card.
- Metalworking and welding environments: Cotton fabric is considered safer than synthetics in areas with a risk of sparks.
- Construction sites: In sections open to traffic, it should be worn together with a product with a fluorescent background.
- Municipal, parks and cleansing teams: The quilted winter lining keeps the body warm during outdoor work.
- Fuel stations and car parks: A dark colour + reflective tape gives both a corporate look and visibility.
If sleeved protection is needed, our 7/7 gabardine quilted winter work jacket from the same fabric family is the jacket counterpart of this gilet.
Colour, Logo and Custom Design
Standard production is navy; black, anthracite and khaki are also common choices. Dark shades do not show stains on site. If your corporate colour is different, we can match the body, zip and reflective placement to it.
For the logo, left chest embroidery is the most durable method on gabardine; the back offers a wide area for the company name, department or job title. Our own design team prepares the placement, positions it so as not to block the reflective tape's function and presents it for your approval before production. For a comparison of methods, see our logo printing and embroidery guide.
Sizes and Fit
The gilet is cut slightly generously so that a fleece or sweatshirt can be worn underneath. It is produced in XS–5XL, in men's and women's patterns; we make special sizes when larger sizes are needed. For detailed measurements, see our workwear size chart guide.
Quantity, Pricing and Lead Time
We do not sell the gilet from stock; we produce every order for your organisation.
- You send us your requirements: quantity, colour, lining preference (winter/summer), pocket and reflective layout, size breakdown and logo details.
- Our design team prepares the logo and reflective placement and presents them for your approval.
- If you wish, we make a physical sample before production.
- After approval, production starts at our own facility — 15 working days.
- Shipping is within Türkiye and abroad.
- Minimum order: 100 pieces
- Price: The unit price falls in tiers as the quantity rises — an advantage of about 12% at 500 pieces, 18% at 1,000 and up to 25% at 2,500 pieces and above. You can see the average unit price for your quantity in the calculator on this page.
- What affects the price: the fabric's yarn count, lining type, number of pockets, length of reflective tape, logo area and method.

Care
The gilet should be washed at no more than 40 °C, inside out. Fabric softener should not be used — over time it reduces the reflective tape's performance. Bleach and high-heat drying are not recommended. The iron should not come into direct contact with the reflective tape. Cotton gabardine may shrink slightly in the first washes; we allow for this when choosing sizes. For details, see our workwear care guide page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does 7/7 gabardine mean?
It shows the fabric's yarn count; the smaller the number, the thicker the yarn. 7/7 is a thick, heavy winter weave; larger numbers such as 16/12 describe fine, light summer fabrics.
Is this gilet a certified high-visibility (hi-vis) garment?
No. The reflective tape on the navy body gives night-time visibility; the EN ISO 20471 classification also requires fluorescent background material. If certified visibility is needed, we recommend our hi-vis safety vest models with a fluorescent background.
Is there a summer (unquilted) version?
Yes. We make an unlined summer version with the same pattern and corporate look. For teams on site all year round, we recommend planning both seasons together.
Can reflective tape be added to the back too?
Yes. Standard production has chest tape; back and sleeve tape is added on request.
Is the fabric really 100% cotton?
Yes, the outer fabric is 100% cotton gabardine. Cotton breathes and does not build up static; it is considered safer than synthetics in environments with a risk of sparks.
Do you produce in our corporate colour?
Yes. We can match the body, zip and reflective placement to your brand identity.
Do you produce a women's pattern?
Yes. The gilet is produced in men's and women's patterns, in XS–5XL.
What is the minimum order?
100 pieces. As the quantity rises, the unit price falls in tiers.
Do you produce and ship abroad?
Yes. We ship from our own production facility within Türkiye and abroad.
