Product description

What Are Pocket Knee Pads?

Foam knee pads placed into the knee pocket of the trousers of staff who kneel to work. Unlike strap-on knee pads, they do not get lost or shift, and they need no separate step when getting dressed.

Mars Wear produces the knee pads together with work trousers that have knee pockets; minimum 100 pieces, standard delivery 15 working days.

Type 2: Which Category Are These Knee Pads?

EN 14404, the standard for knee protectors for work in the kneeling position, divides knee pads into four types:

  • Type 1 — strap-on knee pads worn around the leg, independent of clothing
  • Type 2 — foam knee pads placed in a pocket in the trouser leg ← this product
  • Type 3 — pieces not attached to the body, positioned as the user moves
  • Type 4 — separate accessories such as kneeling mats and cushions

The on-site advantage of Type 2 is simple: staff cannot forget to put the knee pads on, because they are inside the trousers. The most common problem with strap-on knee pads is that they are taken off because they are uncomfortable and never put back on.

The Ground Decides the Level: 0, 1, 2

The standard defines three performance levels according to penetration resistance. The right choice depends entirely on the ground:

  • Level 0 — for flat surfaces only; no protection against penetration. Indoors, smooth concrete, flooring and assembly work.
  • Level 1 — withstands a penetration force of at least 100 N. Uneven ground with a low risk of sharp objects.
  • Level 2 — at least 250 N. Heavy site conditions with a high risk of stones, gravel and nails.

If your team works on clean concrete, Level 0 is enough and thinner. If there is a risk of site rubble, broken stone and nails, Level 2 is needed — it is not a matter of preference but a different level of protection.

Let us be clear about certification: an EN 14404 certificate is issued by a notified body for a specific tested product. If certified PPE is mandatory in your workplace, say so at the start of the project; we set up the supply and certification route accordingly and share in writing what is covered.

A Key Rule: A Knee Pocket Cannot Be Added Later

A Type 2 knee pad only works if the trousers have a pocket for it. That pocket is built into the pattern from the start; a pocket sewn onto finished trousers afterwards does not hold the pad at the right height.

Why does height matter? The knee pad should sit slightly above the knee — because when kneeling, the trousers ride up and the pad slides down. If the pocket is sewn level with the knee, in the working position the pad drops below the knee and the protection is wasted.

That is why we recommend planning the knee pad order together with the trouser order. Models we produce with knee pockets:

If your current trousers have no knee pockets, we plan to add them in the next production run.

Which Teams Need Them?

  • Plumbing and water work — the trade with the most kneeling
  • Electrical and cable installation — working at socket, junction box and trunking level
  • Flooring, tiling and floor coverings — kneeling all day
  • Insulation and roofing
  • Automotive and machine maintenance — access under vehicles and at the base of machines
  • Landscaping and gardening — planting and kerbing work

Ordering and Care

Our minimum order is 100; shipping within Türkiye and abroad.

  • Take the knee pads out of the pocket before washing; the foam deforms in the wash.
  • Do not tumble dry the trousers with the knee pads inside.
  • If the foam is permanently crushed (it does not spring back), it has lost its protective value; replace it.
  • Check the stitching of the knee pocket periodically — in an open pocket the pad slips.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do they differ from strap-on knee pads? Strap-on knee pads (Type 1) are independent of clothing and wrap around the leg; because they are uncomfortable, they are often taken off. Pocket knee pads (Type 2) are inside the trousers, so they are not forgotten and do not slip.

Which level should we choose? If the ground is flat and clean, Level 0 is enough. If it is uneven but the risk of sharp objects is low, Level 1 (≥100 N). If there are stones, gravel and nails, Level 2 (≥250 N).

Can we use them with our existing trousers? Only with trousers that have knee pockets. The pocket is built into the pattern from the start; a pocket added later does not hold the pad at the right height.

Are they certified? A certificate is issued by a notified body for a specific tested product. If certified PPE is mandatory, say so at the start of the project.

Can the knee pads be washed? They should be taken out of the trousers and wiped clean by hand; machine washing deforms the foam.

What is your minimum order? 100 pieces.
