What Is S1PS? The 2022 Revision of the Standard

The S1PS code you see often in the Base catalogue is a new development that most suppliers do not explain. The 2022 revision of EN ISO 20345 split penetration resistance into three:

  • P — metal midsole, tested with a 4.5 mm nail
  • PL — non-metal midsole, tested with a 4.5 mm nail
  • PS — non-metal midsole, tested with a thinner 3.0 mm nail

In practice, the difference means this: a metal midsole is strong against wide punctures but can miss thin wire and nails; a non-metal midsole covers a wider area, and the PS version, which passes the 3.0 mm test, is safer against thin objects.

A metal-free construction also brings three side benefits: the shoe is lighter, it does not trigger metal detectors and it does not draw heat in the cold as metal does.

If your team faces a risk of thin wire, nails or metal swarf — recycling plants, scrapyards, joinery workshops, demolition work — S1PS is the code to look for.

What Is HRO? Teams Working on Hot Floors

The HRO code you see in the Kaptiv range means that the outsole does not melt or crack when in contact with 300 °C for 60 seconds.

Where it is needed: asphalt laying and road maintenance, roofing and membrane application, casting and forging plants, furnace and boiler room maintenance, glass production.

For these teams, a standard sole softens on a hot surface and loses its profile; the shoe loses both its slip resistance and its shape. Although an HRO-soled model looks expensive at first glance, it reduces how often shoes need replacing.

Run@Work or Kaptiv?

  • Run@Work — a trainer last, light and ESD. For inside factories, warehouses, logistics, assembly lines and teams who walk all day. This is the shoe staff want to wear, so compliance is high.
  • Kaptiv — heavy sites. An HRO sole and a sturdier upper. For asphalt, foundries, outdoor work and hot surfaces.

If you are undecided, tell us how many kilometres the team walks a day and whether they come into contact with hot surfaces; we make the choice on that basis.

Safety Classes

  • S1 — toe protection (200 J) + antistatic + heel energy absorption + closed heel
  • S1P / S1PL / S1PS — S1 + penetration resistance (metal / non-metal / thin-nail tested)
  • S2 — S1 + water absorption resistance of the upper
  • S3 — S1P + water resistance + cleated outsole
  • ESD — electrical resistance 0.1–100 MΩ; a narrower and tighter range than antistatic
  • HRO — outsole resistant to 300 °C for 60 seconds

Sizing in Bulk Orders

The most common reason for returns in corporate footwear orders is the wrong size. With imported brands the last can differ from Turkish-made shoes, so a sample fitting matters even more here:

  • Before ordering, we collect the team's shoe sizes through a form.
  • For staff who are unsure, we send a sample pair first.
  • A mixed size breakdown is covered in a single batch.

Frequently Ordered Together

One quote and one shipment together with uniform pieces we produce at our own facility:

For more economical bands, see our Mekap, YDS and Bimes pages; for ESD-focused options, see our Uvex page. All options are in the safety shoes, boots and wellingtons category.

Ordering Process

  1. Needs discussion — team size, working environment, puncture and hot-surface risk.
  2. Model recommendation — range and class matching, price quote.
  3. Sample — a sample pair for a fit trial.
  4. Size collection — through a form.
  5. Supply — genuine products, invoiced.
  6. Shipping — within Türkiye and abroad, delivered to multiple sites.

Our minimum order is 100 pairs.

Care

  • Do not machine wash leather and textile-blend uppers; wipe with a damp cloth.
  • On ESD models, do not replace the conductive insole with an ordinary one; the ESD property is lost.
  • On HRO-soled models, periodically check the sole for cracking and deformation.
  • Clear stones and gravel stuck in the sole profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between S1PS and S1P? S1P uses a metal midsole and is tested with a 4.5 mm nail; S1PS uses a non-metal midsole and is tested with a thinner 3.0 mm nail. S1PS is safer against thin wire and nails.

Do we really need HRO? If your team comes into contact with hot surfaces (asphalt, foundries, roofing membranes, around furnaces), yes. If not, there is no need to pay for HRO.

Some of our staff pass through metal detectors. The metal-free S1PS models (the Run@Work range) do not trigger detectors.

Can you supply a Base model not listed here? Yes. Send us the model code and we will come back with current availability and price.

What is your minimum order? 100 pairs.

Do you ship abroad? Yes, we ship within Türkiye and abroad.
