What Is a Polo Work Shirt?
A polo work shirt is the product that fills the gap between a T-shirt and a shirt in corporate wear. Its collar stands up, and the buttoned placket gives it a seriousness close to a shirt; at the same time, its knitted fabric and short sleeves keep the comfort of a T-shirt.
This balance explains why it is the most popular item in the corporate catalogue: the same model can be worn both in the office and on site. Rather than planning separate clothing for admin staff and the operations team, distinguishing them by colour or logo on a single item simplifies both stock and budget.
At Mars Wear, the polo work shirt is made to order in terms of fabric, weight, colour and logo method. We do not sell retail from ready stock — production starts from 100 pieces.
Piqué or Single Jersey? The Fabric Decision
On this product, the choice of fabric decides both the price and the impression:
- Piqué (standard) — the surface has a small, open texture. This texture both breathes and gives the fabric its "polo" look. It is our default for corporate use.
- Single jersey — a smooth, soft surface. It is softer on the skin and lighter; preferred for teams who wear it for long periods and where skin sensitivity matters. It looks more like a "T-shirt" than piqué.
- Cotton-polyester blend — shrinks less, keeps its colour longer and needs little ironing. A practical choice for operational teams with heavy washing.
- Dry-fit (polyester) — moves moisture to the surface and dries quickly. For teams working in hot environments with a high sweat load, and for sport/event use.
Some shrinkage in the wash is normal with pure cotton garments — it is not a defect but the nature of the fibre, and it is allowed for when planning sizes. The option with the least shrinkage is the blend fabric.
For weight, the practical rule is: 180 g/m² is the balance between comfort and durability and the right starting point for most teams; for heavier use and a "fuller" handle, 200–220 g/m² is preferred. For a comparison, see our work T-shirt weight guide.
Polo Collar or Another Neckline?
- Polo collar (this product) — the most corporate knitted option. Teams who work face to face with customers, reception, stores, admin staff.
- Crew-neck work T-shirt — the most comfortable and most economical. Site, production lines, workshops. The widest area for a back print.
- Mandarin-collar work T-shirt — a closed stand collar; a more covering and more formal silhouette.
- V-neck work T-shirt — a modern cut, mainly for retail and events.
- Long-sleeved polo work shirt — the same collar with long sleeves, for the change of season.
In practice, the most common set-up is a pair of models: polos for admin and customer-facing staff, crew necks for the site. When both are made in the same corporate colour, the team look is not broken.
Who Wears It?
Factories and production facilities — shift management, quality control, planning and admin staff. Producing in the same colour as the field team but with a different neckline is a common solution. See our factory and production workwear page.
Logistics, warehousing and parcel services — dark shades stay looking clean on site for a long time; a back application makes staff recognisable from a distance. There are details in our logistics and warehouse workwear category.
Retail chains and stores — in multi-branch structures, production from a single source gives the same look at every location.
Restaurant, café and hotel chains — service, reception and housekeeping. A polo in the corporate colour carries the brand identity directly.
Tech companies, office towers and call centres — as an everyday uniform or event wear.
Healthcare and laboratory groups — reception, admin teams and technical support; light shades and soft fabric are preferred.
Events, trade fairs and promotions — bulk production in the corporate colour; when a promotional T-shirt is needed, a polo leaves a more valuable impression than a plain T-shirt.
Logo Embroidery and Print
Left chest embroidery is our standard choice on this product. The piqué texture grips the threads well, the embroidery edges stay clean and it leaves a corporate finish — the logo in the product image is applied in exactly this area.
- Embroidery — the most durable method for corporate wear worn constantly. It does not fade with washing.
- Screen printing — the method that brings the unit cost lowest on high-quantity jobs with a limited number of colours.
- Transfer print / DTF — for low quantities and multi-colour or gradient logos; the quickest for campaign and event work.
- DTG — for designs that need photographic detail.
On a polo, the embroidery area is limited to the space between the placket and the shoulder seam; the back is used for large logos. In chain structures, the common set-up is the brand logo on the left chest + branch or job lettering on the back. For choosing a method, see our articles Embroidery or print — a workwear logo guide and logo printing and embroidery methods.
Colour and Corporate Identity
Our stock colour range covers dark (black, navy, anthracite, burgundy, dark green), light (white, cream, light grey, light blue), bright (red, orange, yellow, green) and classic (beige, tan, khaki) groups.
For orders that need an exact match to the corporate identity, custom colours are produced to a Pantone reference; in that case the quantity and lead time are planned separately. For multi-batch annual purchases, we plan production from the same recipe to keep the colour consistent.
Mixed colours are possible within a single order — for example navy for admin staff and grey for the site. Department-based colour distinction is the most practical way to tell teams apart in multi-location companies.
Size Range
XS – 5XL is the standard range; 6XL and above are made on a custom pattern. Approximate measurements (chest / length, cm):
| Size | Chest | Length |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 92 | 65 |
| S | 96 | 67 |
| M | 100 | 69 |
| L | 104 | 71 |
| XL | 108 | 73 |
| 2XL | 112 | 75 |
| 3XL | 116 | 77 |
| 4XL | 120 | 79 |
| 5XL | 124 | 81 |
A mixed size breakdown is handled in a single production run. For large teams we recommend taking measurements rather than guessing; you can use the workwear size chart page to plan the breakdown.
Custom Design and Production
We produce the polo for your company in terms of colour, collar and placket detail, binding combination and logo placement. Our own design team adapts your corporate colours to the product, plans department-based distinctions within a single order where needed, and prepares a digital placement visual before the sample.
If you want to see the design on screen before production, you can use our online polo design tool, and for the process, see our custom uniform design page.
Production takes place at our own facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul; because pattern, cutting, sewing and logo application are under one roof, the revision process is short. We ship within Türkiye and abroad; for multi-branch companies, boxes can be split by size and location and distributed directly.
Order Quantity and Price
The minimum order is 100 — per product line, not per size. The colour and size mix can be arranged freely within this quantity.
The unit price is calculated from the fabric type, weight, logo method, number of application areas and quantity together. As the quantity rises, pattern and print set-up costs are spread over more pieces, so the unit price falls.
You can see the current unit price by entering your quantity in the calculator on this page and request a quote with the “Request a quote for this product” button on the same screen. For multi-item and multi-branch orders, we work out an annual framework price — contact us through the quote form. For budget planning, see our workwear prices and cost guide, and for our minimum quantity structure, the bulk logo workwear production from 100 pieces page.
Care
Wash at 30–40 °C, with similar colours. Bleach should not be used — it fades the colour and weakens the cotton fibre.
Embroidered and printed garments are washed inside out; iron from the reverse at a medium temperature, and do not press directly onto embroidery or print. High-heat drying increases shrinkage in cotton; drying in the shade is recommended.
For details, see our workwear care instructions page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Polo collar or crew neck?
A polo for customer-facing staff with a representative role; a crew neck for site, production line and workshop teams. Making both together in the same corporate colour is a common and practical solution within one company.
Should I choose piqué or single jersey?
Piqué if a corporate look comes first, single jersey if comfort and softness come first. Our standard production is on piqué.
What is the difference between 180 g/m² and 200 g/m²?
200 g/m² gives a fuller handle and a more covering look; in hot environments, 180 g/m² is more comfortable. For teams whose garments are washed often, the heavier weight keeps its shape longer.
Is embroidery or print better?
Embroidery is the most durable for a uniform worn constantly. For short campaigns and events, transfer print is economical; for high-quantity single-colour jobs, screen printing lowers the unit cost.
Can we have a left chest logo and a back logo together?
Yes. Each extra application area is reflected in the unit price. In chain structures, the brand logo on the left chest and branch or job lettering on the back is the most common layout.
Can you make it in our corporate colour?
Yes. We produce custom colours to a Pantone reference; for such orders, the quantity and lead time are planned separately.
Does it shrink in the wash?
Some shrinkage is normal with pure cotton garments. The option with the least shrinkage is the cotton-polyester blend; we plan sizes together with you with this in mind.
What is the minimum order?
100 pieces, and this quantity is per product line, not per size.
Do you ship abroad?
Yes. Production takes place at our own facility in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul; we ship within Türkiye and abroad.
