Summer Workwear

With summer workwear the aim is not to find thin fabric but to move sweat away from the body. A fabric that stays wet sticks to the skin, restricts movement and ends all comfort by the middle of the day.

Three criteria are decisive.

Fabric weight. In a summer product, a lower weight holds less heat, but very lightweight fabric does not stand up to abrasion and is short-lived on site. Lower weights are preferred for office and customer-facing staff, mid weights for field teams.

Weave. Piqué and mesh weaves let air through; they keep you noticeably cooler than a plain knit. In gilets and tops, models with mesh panels provide airflow across the back and under the arms.

Fibre. Cotton breathes and feels comfortable on the skin, but it absorbs sweat and stays wet. Polyester carries sweat to the surface and dries quickly, but on its own it is less comfortable on the skin. In corporate buying a blend gives the right balance for most teams; for teams who move constantly and sweat a lot, a high-polyester fabric works better.

The sun itself is a risk too. For teams working outdoors, short sleeves are not always the right choice: a thin, breathable long-sleeved top gives better results in the long run because it protects the arms from the sun. Caps and hats provide shade for outdoor teams.

The need for visibility does not go away in summer; hi-vis gilets with a mesh construction are used to meet the EN ISO 20471 requirement in the heat without making staff sweat.
