T-Shirt or Shirt?

This is not a comfort choice but a decision about who the team deals with.

Shirt — teams who work face to face with customers, visitors and inspectors. Technical service, field sales, information desks, reception, showrooms, dealer representatives, project and site management. A collared, buttoned construction carries a sign of corporate hierarchy; it also distinguishes roles within the team.

Polo shirt — the in-between solution. It has a collar but is made of knitted fabric; not as formal as a shirt, as comfortable as a T-shirt.

Crew-neck T-shirt — production, warehouse and field teams. Movement comes first.

In most organisations all three are used together, and this is how roles are distinguished: T-shirts for the field, polo shirts for service, shirts for staff who represent the company.

What Finishes a Shirt Is the Collar

In a corporate shirt, the collar is where quality is lost first. A shirt whose collar curls after a few washes loses its representative function — whatever is written on it, it looks scruffy.

Two decisive details:

• Collar interlining quality. The stiffening layer inside the collar must not shrink in the wash or separate from the fabric. With cheap interlining, the collar ripples after a few washes.
• Collar stiffeners. Removable stiffeners keep the collar flat. On models with sewn-in stiffeners, the stiffener can leave a mark when ironed; removable ones are preferred in corporate buying.

For corporate shirts that are washed often, these two details matter more than fabric quality.

Fabric: Blend or Cotton?

• Cotton-polyester blend — the standard for corporate buying. Creases less, needs little ironing and keeps its shape. In a large workforce it is not realistic to expect staff to iron every morning; a blend solves this.
• 100% cotton — more breathable and more comfortable in the heat, but it creases and needs ironing.

For teams working in the field and in the heat we recommend a high cotton content, and a blend for office and representative staff.

A Warning Near Machinery

Unlike a T-shirt, a shirt is a buttoned, open-cuffed product. Next to moving parts such as rotating shafts, drills and lathes, loose-cut sleeves and an untucked shirt tail carry an entanglement risk.

If you are planning shirts for staff who work near machinery, the cut must be slim and the cuffs gathered. For those teams, a T-shirt is usually the safer choice.

Logo Application

• Left chest — the most common position; embroidery is preferred and sits cleanly on woven fabric
• Sleeve — to distinguish departments or dealers
• Back — the company name for field teams; usually not chosen for customer-facing staff

• Wash at 40 °C, buttoned up and inside out.
• Remove the collar stiffeners before ironing the collar.
• High heat in a tumble dryer shrinks the collar interlining; use low heat or hang to dry.
• Iron embroidered areas from the reverse side.
