Thermal Work Socks

The first thing that lowers performance in the cold is usually cold feet — and most organisations try to solve it with a jacket. Staff whose toes are cold cannot focus on their work; however good the jacket, the result does not change.

Mars Wear supplies them for corporate buyers from a minimum of 100 pairs; standard delivery is 15 working days.

Why Don't Cotton Socks Work in the Cold?

This is the most common, and most expensive, misconception on site.

Cotton absorbs and holds sweat. The cooling effect as it dries is an advantage in summer; in winter it works the other way. Feet sweat, the moisture stays inside the sock, and wet fabric carries heat away much faster than dry fabric. Staff say "I wore thick cotton socks and still got cold" — the cause is not thickness but moisture.

What matters in a thermal sock is not thickness but moisture management: a construction that moves sweat away from the foot and releases it. That is why thermal socks are usually synthetic or a wool-synthetic blend, not pure cotton.

Thick Socks Can Make Feet Colder

The second common mistake: making socks thicker because it is cold.

A safety shoe is lasted to a set volume. When the sock gets thicker, the foot is squeezed inside the shoe and two things happen:

  • Circulation drops. In a squeezed foot, blood flow slows and the body's mechanism for warming the foot weakens. The result: colder feet in thicker socks.
  • The insulating air gap is lost. What holds heat is not the fabric itself but the still air within it. In a compressed sock, that air is gone.

The right approach: size the shoe together with the sock. If you issue thick socks to winter staff, you may need to plan shoes one size larger. When we plan shoes and socks in the same order, we work this out together.

Which Teams Are They For?

  • Cold stores and freezers — food logistics, meat and dairy plants
  • Outdoor winter operations — construction sites, roads, power lines
  • Ports and open ramps — standing on concrete for long periods draws heat away
  • Outdoor night-shift teams

For teams standing on concrete all day, insoles also become an issue; concrete draws heat through the sole of the shoe.

The feet are not the only point of heat loss:

Ordering and Care

Our minimum order is 100 pairs; shipping within Türkiye and abroad.

  • Do not use fabric softener — it destroys the fibres' ability to move moisture, which is the sock's main function.
  • Wash at 40 °C, inside out.
  • High heat in a tumble dryer damages the elastic; use low heat or dry naturally.
  • Replace socks once they start to go loose on the foot — a slipping sock breaks the heat barrier and lets water collect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren't cotton socks enough in winter? Cotton absorbs and holds sweat. Wet fabric carries heat away much faster than dry fabric, which is why feet get cold. In winter, what matters is moisture management, not thickness.

Are thicker socks warmer? Up to a point. In a sock squeezed inside the shoe, circulation drops and the insulating gap is lost; a thick sock can make the feet colder.

Should we change shoe sizes? If you issue thick socks to winter staff, you may need to plan shoes one size larger. If we plan shoes and socks in the same order, we work this out together.

Can they carry a logo? The logo area on a sock is very limited; in corporate buying, colour coding to distinguish departments is usually preferred.

What is your minimum order? 100 pairs.
