Product description

Uvex 6590: A 100% Metal-Free Model

The penetration-resistant member of the Uvex 1 sport range. What sets it apart is not its class but that it contains no metal at all: the toe protection is composite, and the midsole that provides penetration resistance is not metal either.

  • Uvex 6590 — S1 PL · retail TRY 5,451 · TRY 4,090 per pair for 100 pairs

According to the manufacturer's declaration, it carries the S1 PL class under EN ISO 20345:2022, the additional marking for very good slip resistance (SR) and ESD properties with a volume resistance below 100 MΩ.

What Does PL Mean? How Does It Differ from P?

The 2022 revision of the standard split penetration resistance into three, and the 6590 is a good example of this distinction:

  • P — metal midsole, tested with a 4.5 mm nail
  • PL — non-metal midsole, tested with a 4.5 mm nail ← the 6590 is here
  • PS — non-metal midsole, tested with a thinner 3.0 mm nail

A metal midsole is strong against wide objects but does not cover the whole sole; a non-metal midsole covers a wider area. If the risk from thin wire dominates, a PS-coded model is needed — PL is one level below it.

What Being Metal-Free Means in Practice

Because neither the toe protection nor the midsole is metal:

  • It does not trigger metal detectors. This is the decisive feature at airports, security-controlled facilities and some production and logistics areas.
  • It does not draw heat in the cold. A metal toe cap chills the toes early in cold environments; composite insulates. A noticeable difference for cold store teams.
  • It is lighter. The total load drops for staff who walk all day.
  • It suits environments where magnetic fields are present.

On the other hand, a composite toe cap is usually bulkier than steel; the toe of the shoe looks slightly fuller. Composite is also damaged by cracking rather than crushing like steel — the damage may not be visible from the outside, so a shoe that has taken an impact should be replaced.

It Has ESD Too

The 6590 is also ESD: electrical resistance below 100 MΩ. This is noticeably narrower than the standard antistatic range (100 kΩ–1,000 MΩ). Every ESD shoe is antistatic; not every antistatic shoe is ESD.

A warning: an ESD shoe alone is not enough. The resistance chain continues shoe → floor → earthing; on an insulating floor it does not give the expected protection, and thick insulating socks raise the resistance. Replacing the conductive insole with an ordinary one also ends the ESD property.

When Is Penetration Resistance Needed?

  • Sites with nails, screws and wire on the ground — construction, refurbishment, demolition, joinery workshops
  • Metal swarf and cutting waste — turning, milling, sheet metal work
  • Broken glass and ceramics — production and packaging lines
  • Pallet and packaging nails — warehouses and dispatch areas

If the floor is clean and controlled (assembly lines, clean rooms, laboratories), you do not need to pay for penetration resistance; the Uvex 8543 or 8544 gives the same ESD protection more economically.

Sizing in Bulk Orders

  • Before ordering, we collect the team's shoe sizes through a form.
  • An imported last may differ from locally made shoes; a sample fitting matters more here.
  • A mixed breakdown is covered in a single batch.

Frequently Ordered Together

For other Uvex models, see our Uvex safety shoes, Uvex 8543 / 8544 and Uvex 8516 pages; for all brands, see the safety shoes, boots and wellingtons category.

Ordering and Care

Our minimum order is 100 pairs; genuine products, invoiced supply, shipping within Türkiye and abroad.

  • Do not machine wash; wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Do not replace the conductive insole with an ordinary one; the ESD property is lost.
  • Clear stones and gravel stuck in the sole profile — they directly reduce slip resistance.
  • If the composite toe cap has taken an impact, replace the shoe; the damage takes the form of a crack and may not be visible from the outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the 6590 pass a metal detector? Yes. The toe protection and midsole are not metal; it does not trigger the detector.

What is the difference between S1 PL and S1P? Both have penetration resistance. P uses a metal midsole, PL a non-metal one. The 6590 is PL.

We have a thin-wire risk — is PL enough? PL is tested with a 4.5 mm nail. If the risk from thin wire and nails dominates, a PS-coded model tested with 3.0 mm is safer — the Base Run@Work range is S1PS.

We have an ESD area — is this model suitable? The manufacturer declares a volume resistance below 100 MΩ. Remember that the floor and earthing must also be suitable.

Is it water resistant? The S1 PL class includes no water resistance in the upper. Wet floors need S2 or S3 — the Uvex 8516 is S3.

What is your minimum order? 100 pairs.
